An Open Letter to YTL WiMAX
Dear YTL WiMAX,
I am writing this to clarify my blog post that was written on 26 July 2010 with the title “YTL WiMAX to offer Android devices, launch might delay till next year“.
The reason I wrote that article is simply because I was so excited to find out that you are working on Android devices, and to be specific, its WiMAX Android devices. Something that I find very interesting since these are true mobile internet devices without mobile voice services. My apologies for spoiling the surprise as I was unable to hold myself from revealing it to my readers.
I respect your decision to keep this confidential so that is why I did not disclose the specific details and the company that was signed to manufacture it. If you consider this as a leak, I can tell you that the information did not come from YTL and you have a good team that believes in the company.
As for what I said on the coverage, I’m estimating that your current WiMAX coverage is no where close to 50%. You’ve promised a nationwide coverage by the end of 2010 when you launch the service, that’s about 60%-70% WiMAX coverage in human population area.
So it was a practical estimation when I said that you won’t be able to meet your own launch dateline. Unless that is if you have changed your plan to launch without a proper mobile WiMAX coverage. Even P1 WiMAX(launched in 2008) has only about 35% WiMAX coverage at the moment and targeting 45% by end of this year.
I understand if you might feel uncomfortable on what was written but I never had any negative intention while writing that article. To tell you the truth, I would have written more things if I wanted to cause damage to your company, considering that all your competitors are monitoring this website. But it never happened. So here’s the deal, I want you to take my challenge and launch the service by year end.
As a new player in the industry I hope you are more open to opinions(good or bad) and engage with everyone out there who talks about you, whether you like them or not. I do hope we can engage and learn more from each other as I’ve got no plans to stop writing about you. So if you think that I’m writing the bad stuff, feed me the right information, so I will write the right thing. This is something that P1 WiMAX has failed to do over the past few months.
YTL WiMAX, you have a long way to go and I welcome you to the Internet industry.
Best of luck and do invite me to the launch!
Kugan
