U Mobile to Compensate Customers with Free SMS and Free Data

U Mobile will be compensating all its customers for the loss they suffered earlier this week.

The 3G mobile operator will be giving away free SMS all day to all operators in Malaysia on 10 November 2011, 10 December 2011 and 10 January 2012.

In addition to that, U Mobile data users will receiving an additional 500MB free every month starting from 10 Nov 2011 till the end of Jan 2012.

U Mobile CEO has since apologise for the network interruption but did not reveal the exact cause of the network outage.

MalaysianWireless have reasons to believe the network outage was caused by an error in HLR (Home Location Register).

HLR processes users’ basic service subscription information, supplementary service subscription information, location information, and CAMEL subscription information, and also provides customized service according to customers’ demands. The U Mobile HLR solution is supplied by ZTE Corporation.

DiGi uses a similar HLR solution from ZTE as well.
