Nokia to move Singapore HQ to China

Nokia will be moving its Asia-Pacific headquarters to Beijing(China) from Singapore as part of plans to raise business efficiencies and meet savings targets.

The move to relocate its Asia-Pacific HQ indicates that Nokia wants to focus in the world’s largest smartphone market which Nokia is already leading according to a research report.

Nokia Singapore office will continue to operate as usual without regional responsibility. It is believed that some 400 employees in Nokia Singapore have been offered to relocate to Beijing but it is unknown on the numbers that accepted the offer. There are some rumours that certain high level employees are asked to relocate to Nokia’s HQ in Finland.

The move is “part of our strategy to adapt our operations to the business environment to ensure our competitiveness. This includes an increasing focus on assembly in Asia, close to our suppliers,” said a Nokia spokesman.

MalaysianWireless has contacted Nokia Singapore for an official statement.
