Motorola & Lenovo Android smartphones to use Intel Atom chip

Chip maker Intel has partnered with Motorola & Lenovo. Under the partnership, Motorola & Lenovo will use Intel’s latest Medfield chip in their upcoming Android smartphones. The announcement was made at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2012.

Just last month, Intel unveiled its latest Medfield chip or Intel Atom processor Z2460 that will run on Android smartphones & tablets. Medfield’s system-on-chip design packs an X86-architecture central processing unit (CPU), RAM memory, storage and an Imagination Technologies-designed graphics processing unit all onto the same chip using the firm’s established 32 nanometre manufacturing technology. Samsung to overtake Nokia in 2012

Samsung, the No.1 smartphone maker in the world since Q3 2011 is confident it will become the world’s largest cellphone maker in 2012, overtaking Nokia.

The world’s biggest technology company by revenue sold 300 million handsets for the first time in 2011 compared to 280 million in 2010, mainly lead by smartphone sales. Based on the latest polls by Reuters, Nokia is expected to sell some 418 million phones this year versus Samsung at 359 million.

Nokia Lumia 900 Unveiled

At the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2012 today, Nokia has announced the Lumia 900,  arguably the flagship Lumia device in the US before the rest of the world. It will be exclusive to AT&T for the time being.

The Nokia Lumia 900 comes with LTE connectivity supporting download speeds up to 50Mbps and a large 4.3” ClearBlack AMOLED screen. Just like the Nokia Lumia 800, the Nokia Lumia 900 also comes with a polycarbonate unibody.

Nokia to move Singapore HQ to China

Nokia will be moving its Asia-Pacific headquarters to Beijing(China) from Singapore as part of plans to raise business efficiencies and meet savings targets.

The move to relocate its Asia-Pacific HQ indicates that Nokia wants to focus in the world’s largest smartphone market which Nokia is already leading according to a research report.

Nokia Singapore office will continue to operate as usual without regional responsibility. It is believed that some 400 employees in Nokia Singapore have been offered to relocate to Beijing but it is unknown on the numbers that accepted the offer. No Value Pack Upgrade for Samsung Galaxy S

Samsung Galaxy S owners out there who are expecting for a “value pack upgrade” are going to be disappointed with this news. Samsung officially confirmed that it has dropped the plan to release the update.

Samsung Electronics initially said the Galaxy S will not be compatible with the latest Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich due to hardware and memory limitations. However the company did say that it may provide a Value Pack upgrade which will enhance some features like improved web browsing, multi-tasking, new widgets and more to bring the experience as close as Android 4.0. TM to spend up to RM3bil to improve services

In a recent interview with a local newspaper, Telekom Malaysia Group CEO said that the company will spend up to RM3bil in capital expenditure (capex) this year to improve services, especially UniFi.

“We are looking to invest RM2.7bil to RM3bil in capex this year to provide access, build our core network and support systems. We will continue to invest in HSBB but increasingly our expansion would be based on a demand driven model,” TM group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zamzamzairani Md Isa told TheStar. [...]

P1 to support IPV6 by end of this year

Packet One Networks or better known as P14G said that it will be IPV6 ready by the end of 2012. The WiMAX operator has already completed phase two of three phases of the compliance exercise.

Michael Lai, Chief Executive Officer of P1 said, “We are quickly approaching a major milestone in the life of the Internet. Malaysia is preparing for the use of IPv6 addresses in order to keep pace with the change. As a forward-looking organization, P1’s preparations on the compliance exercise began months back. Our backend systems are already fully IPv6 compliant. The third phase is on the last mile delivery and end user devices compliance.
