Over 700,000 Android devices activated everyday

The Android operating system appears to be doing very well. Back in December 2010, we reported that over 300k Android devices are activated a day, a year later, there are over 700,000 Android devices activated everyday.

According to Andy Rubin, Senior Vice President of Mobile at Google, the activations are counted when a new Android phone is activated for the very 1st time.

“..For those wondering, we count each device only once (ie, we don’t count re-sold devices), and “activations” means you go into a store, buy a device, put it on the network by subscribing to a wireless service.” he said. [...]

Nokia Lumia 800 has battery issues, a fix is coming

Nokia Lumia 800, the first real Windows Phone according to Nokia & Microsoft, has a bug which is related to the battery.

The bug was acknowledged by Nokia- “While the battery itself is fine, a software problem on certain variants is limiting the phone’s ability to access the full battery capacity. We want to stress that this issue has not been found to affect the recently introduced Nokia Lumia 710.”

Google Tablet coming in 6-months

It appears that Google is working on its own tablet. In a recent interview with an Italian newspaper, Eric Schmidt, the president of Google said that the company will be “marketing a tablet of the highest quality” in the next 6 months.

There is no detailed information on this Google tablet which is likely to be branded as a “Nexus Tablet” or may be part of the Xoom family since Google practically owns Motorola right now. However Schmidt said that consumers will see “brutal competition between Apple and Google Android” in the smartphone market.

Apple’s iPad leads the tablet market and there are over 100 tablets out there, but none as good or as popular as the iPad. Some of the close rivals to the iPad are the Android powered-Samsung Galaxy Tabs and the Amazon Kindle Fire. [...]

Apple’s A5 iPhone chip now Made in Texas

In the past, the Apple iPhone chipsets were produced in Korea and China but that might change. A new report revealed that the new A5 chip which powers the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 is now made in Austin, Texas(United States).

The A5 processor is built by Samsung in a newly constructed $3.6 billion factory that has the size of nine football fields(1.6 million square feet). The reports says that Samsung began supplying the A5 processors to Apple this year from the new Austin plant which has about 1,100 employees. [...]

[Business] RIM’s Q3 Financial Report

RIM on last week reported its third quarter(Q3) results for the three months ended November 26, 2011. The BlackBerry maker reported a net income of $265 million – a 71% drop from the $911 million it made for the same period last year.

The BlackBerry subscriber base now stands at 75 million and according to RIM it has shipped 14.1 million BlackBerry smartphones and 150,000 PlayBook tablets during the quarter. [...]
