Maxis Strengthens Management Ranks to Enhance Market Leadership

MAXIS Communications Berhad announced appointments to the newly-created positions of Group Chief Executive Officer and Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, a move aimed at enhancing its market leadership and to support its regional growth strategies.

Consistent with its aim to strengthen the management team, the Board of Maxis is pleased to announce the appointment of Dato’ Jamaludin Ibrahim as Group CEO with immediate effect, and of Sandip Das as Malaysia CEO effective January 15, 2007. 

Dato’ Jamaludin joined Maxis in 1997 and became its Chief Executive Officer in 1998. In his new capacity as Group CEO, Dato’ Jamaludin will provide overall leadership to the group and be responsible for enhancing the group’s performance. He will focus on the growth strategy for the group, building synergies, deepening management talent and technical competence, while ensuring international best practices are applied throughout the group’s operating and regional entities. All the country CEOs, including Malaysia, will report to the Group CEO.
Sandip is a veteran of the mobile phone industry in India where he was one of the architects responsible for building a nationwide customer base of over 22 million subscribers for Hutchison India. As Malaysia CEO, Sandip will take responsibility for the Malaysian operations to expand Maxis’ leadership in the market, drive entrepreneurship throughout the organisation, seek and realise growth opportunities while strengthening the Malaysian franchise in terms of branding, distribution, network, service excellence and product innovation. All the Malaysian business units and support functions, including the current Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, will report to Sandip.
Commenting on the appointment, Dato’ Jamaludin said, “Sandip’s appointment will add considerable strength and depth to the Malaysian team given his extensive and invaluable experience in successfully navigating what is, arguably, the world’s most competitive market. With his background and expertise in India, Sandip will also play a key role in developing strategies for our operations in India, where he will work closely with Jagdish Kini, the recently appointed CEO of Aircel.”
