Celcom Mobile Sdn Bhd has appointed a debt collection agency to recover outstanding debts from mobile users, particularly those in the Klang Valley.
Under a recently signed agreement between Celcom and Radzi Consulting, the latter has been tasked to manage an Internet portal, www.tunggakan.com, and collect the payments on behalf of Celcom.
Radzi Consulting owner Mohd Radzi Basiron said he was confident of recovering at least 20% of the debts owed by mobile subscribers.
He declined to reveal the amount subscribers owed to Celcom but it is believed to be a few hundred million ringgit.
“All the Celcom users have to do is to log in to the website and key in their identity card numbers to check the amount they owe Celcom. Payment can be made online and is hassle-free,” he said in an interview.
Besides Celcom, the company has also been entrusted to collect unpaid loans given out by Kolej Yayasan Melaka, estimated at about RM40mil.
Radzi said many of the defaulters were willing to settle the amount they owed to Celcom if there was a proper channel for them to check their account and they could pay easily via the Internet.
“The debt market in Malaysia is big and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
“We are confident of securing contracts from other telecommunication companies as we already have the debt collection portal which is user friendly,” he added. -theStar
