MCMC to combat phone theft

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) plans to set up a database of stolen cellphones to combat phone theft.

MCMC is currently studying the approach used by the British Metropolitan Police, which tracks stolen phones via the unique international mobile equipment identity code found in every phone.

However, MCMC said it is unlikely the database would be available for use this year.-TheStar
