Maxis CEO is retiring

    Datuk Jamaludin Ibrahim, the name that is always related to MAXIS, will be retiring as Group CEO this July,31.

    He was recently named
    Asian Mobile Operator CEO of the year. Datuk Jamaludin will be replaced by Sandip Das who was the former CEO of Hutchison Essar(India) as Maxis CEO for Malaysian operations.

    It is understood that Jamaludin is leaving the company for personal reasons and his departure is not linked to the privatisation of Maxis.

    Profile:Datuk Jamaludin Ibrahim

    Joined Maxis in 1997 as CFO, a year later promoted as CEO. Becomed a director in 2002. He is now 48, married to Datin Norizan Azizan, the only daughter of former Petronas chairman Tan Sri Azizan Zainul Abidin.

    Datuk Jamaludin spent 17 years in the IT industry before joining Maxis(12 years was spent in IBM). He also a board member of Bridge Mobile Pte Ltd, a strategic alliance of eleven regional telecommunications providers.

    Graduated in 1978 from California State University, USA, with a B.Sc. in Business Administration and a minor in Mathematics. He obtained his Masters of Business Administration from Portland State University, Oregon, in 1980, specializing in Quantitative Methods.

    Datuk Jamaludin will still remain in the board of Maxis as non-executive director.
