For good or for bad? No one knows except the Government who postponed the date for the signing of the high-speed broadband infrastructure project (HSBB).
The target of Phase 1 is to make available broadband service to 50% of the Malalaysia’s household by 2010 and also upgrade the existing copper lines, mostly owned by Telekom Malaysia to fibre optic cables.
TM deserves to be part of this project but I think that the other 20 ISPs in this country should also be given a role and must be given a fair access to the HSSB network/infrastructure to allow healthy and fair competition in this country.
This will offer consumers more choices and competitions could drive higher broadband adoption. This is in line with the goal of the HSBB project.
The HSBB project is expected to offer Malaysians broadband speed of up to 1Gbps.
A source told me that the signing was suppose to take place on 1st July 2008, press invite was already sent out however it was canceled during the last minute.
I will be glad to be invited to the signing of the HSBB project. Send me that invitation via email.
