Looks like the online streaming service is back to normal yesterday night. However there are still issue with quality of the streaming.
Earlier, some readers said that they had no problem with the streaming, so not all users are affected, still waiting for Maxis to reply.
I’m surprised to know that the free online streaming of the Maxis 2010 FIFA World Cup is only available to Astro and Maxis POSTpaid subscribers, not all subscribers as Maxis claims.
While the mobile streaming is available to all Maxis postpaid and prepaid subscribers, it is limited to certain phone models only (HTC Desire not in the list):
- iPhone 3G and 3Gs
- Blackberry Bold 9000
- Nokia N95
- Nokia N81
- Nokia N82
- Nokia N78
- Sony Ericsson
- Sony Ericsson K770
- Sony Ericsson G905
- Sony Ericsson W980
- Sony Ericsson G502
I have not heard any problems with the mobile streaming but the online streaming appears to have failed to deliver its promises. While it is already complicated to register on the streaming site(Thanks Astro!), there is another problem- the live streaming is not working!
It started with wrong links to the live stream/match and then errors related to DRM and IP started showing up. This has been going on for the past 2-3 days, equivalent to about 10 live matches.
Thankfully, I’m not the only one complaining.
First, if you would call Astro customer service, they don’t even know that such online streaming service is available. Thumbs up Astro!
Second, Maxis press release and their management says online streaming is available to all their customers, but customer service says only postpaid subscribers.
Third, this online service is a collaboration between Maxis and Astro, involving millions of Ringgit, but they forgot about customer service.
Fourth, the service is having issues for more than 24 hours, not a single announcement on the website. Two thumbs up Astro!
Maxis has failed to make things clear at first place and they also failed to deliver what they have promised to customers. As for Astro, I personally think that they have never been successful in the satellite TV business, and going online only makes it worst for them.
I have emailed Maxis regarding this issue and I will update this post once I receive an update from them. I was promised a call from Astro customer service at 1pm, nothing till now, disappointing.
