The aim of the contest is to provide a platform for innovative, inventive and creative developers to create a wealth of applications that can be embedded into the Android device. The LEDC – Android Application contest which will run from 1 August until 31 October 2010 highlights applications created specifically for Android essential features.

Creative applicants who have the interest in creating application for mobile phones now have a direct channel to bring their innovations and creativity to the market through the LEDC platform, as Celcom aspires to continue the momentum of the recent contest, LEDC-Blackberry Applications which garnered positive response and attracted substantial number of attendees to the workshop. With the pursuit of this contest, LEDC would have a complete Operating System portfolio that will not only leverage on Blackberry Applications, but on Android platform as well.

“The contest is Celcom’s brainchild that brings together a collective of dynamic developers, creative entrepreneur-driven individuals and start-up companies aiming to use LEDC as a platform to display their talents and ideas. It is our goal to fundamentally encourage a vision of local entrepreneurs to create unique mobile solutions and promote openness in the mobile world in our advanced and technology-centric culture through the application and presentation of interactive exhibits,” said Dato’ Sri Shazalli Ramly, Chief Executive Officer of Celcom Axiata Berhad.

Ample promotion and commercialization of applications and services will be given to the winning developers. The winning developers will have their applications developed under the guidance and mentoring of industry experts, followed by an opportunity for an exclusive revenue sharing contract with Celcom of up to 80:20 among other cash prizes worth RM20,000. These are part of main fundamentals of the actual LEDC programme which was launched back in September 2008.

Celcom is engaging a local training partner, iTrain to provide Malaysian developers a series of Beginning Android Development training and workshops. iTrain has been working closely with the Google Technology User Group and the CodeAndroid Malaysia User Group for the past one year to bring Google Technology trainings to Malaysian Developers. The workshop is a 2 days hands-on lab from designing to building mobile applications using Google’s Android open-source platform.

All the submitted applications will be reviewed and evaluated thoroughly, followed by careful selection of winners by a panel of judges. Judging will be based on uniqueness and creativity of their application ideas, skills, experience, innovation and most importantly, synchronization with Celcom’s product and services strategy.
