Maxis online portal bug leads to privacy breach

Update 1(Oct 7, 12.05PM): Maxis sent out the statement below yesterday evening.

MAXIS MEDIA STATEMENT
6 OCTOBER 2010
ELECTRONIC CUSTOMER SERVICE (WEB)

Maxis Berhad would like to assure its customers that we are committed to customer confidentiality.  This is following feedback that a technical issue was detected in our electronic customer service (eCS) system.  Immediate steps have been taken and the issue was resolved within hours.  We will be contacting affected customers to update them of the situation.

Over 25 million mobile users out there in Malaysia trust their personal data with the telecoms provider but it appears certain mobile operator doesn’t think that customer’s personal data are something PERSONAL and SENSITIVE.

This is what happened on 4th October 2010 with the operator who claims more than 11 million subscribers- check out their customer’s personal data below, obtained while logging into the Maxis Online Portal.

Invasion of privacy? Definitely!
