Opinion: U Mobile 42Mbps modem to be available next year

I’m sure that you still remember the Telco that launched their one and only high speed 42Mbps HSPA+ base station in Berjaya Times Square last month.

U Mobile has opened up a “Registration of Interest” page for consumers to own the “The latest and fastest 42Mbps Modem” today, starting next year.

No details on pricing but it appears that U Mobile is working on a new data plan for the 42Mbps service planned to be available in Subang Jaya and Sunway.

In my opinion, it is too greedy for a company like U Mobile to deploy HSPA+ when they have yet to roll out 3G coverage in other parts of the country. Dear SKMM, is U Mobile excepted from providing nationwide mobile coverage?

Another disappointment is that U Mobile appears to be shouting for a service that it promises average download speed between 3 to 10Mbps and average upload speed between 0.5 to 1.5Mbps.

So what’s the big deal with 42Mbps when customers won’t even hit 10Mbps?

Dear U Mobile: December 2011 can also be considered “next year”. Please be specific next time, at least provide a time frame.
