MCMC to focus on broadband quality in 2011

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will meet with service providers early next year to discuss ways to improve broadband services in the country.

MCMC deputy secretary general Datuk Dr Ali Mohamad Nor said MCMC has decided to focus on service quality next year.

“We will conduct a study and will consult the industry players to formulate an approach on how best to improve the broadband service.”

He said there are many misconceptions about the level of broadband service quality in the country.

“Service quality and cost cannot be judged by one or two instances. The overall quality level of broadband service in Malaysia is good, if not better than most countries in Southeast Asia,” he said, adding that comparison with Singapore would not be fair as the island republic has a much smaller land area.
