TM & NTT to build new submarine cable system

Telekom Malaysia(TM) and NTT Communications will be signing a Construction & Maintenance Agreement (CMA) to jointly build a new submarine cable system.

TM owns or leases capacity on more than 10 submarine cable systems, which span more than 60,000 fiber-route miles around the globe, including several submarine cable routes that the company uses to carry traffic between the Asia-Pacific region and North America.

Besides AAG(Asia America Gateway submarine cable network), TM is also member of the various consortiums for submarine cable systems in the region, which include South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe Cable System 3 (SEA-ME-WE3 – SMW3), SEA-ME-WE4 (SMW4) and Asia Pacific Cable Network 2 (APCN2).

The new submarine cable system between TM & NTT will link Malaysia with Hong Kong and Japan.

The CMA is scheduled to be signed on Monday(31 Monday 2011) and will be witnessed by YB Dato’ Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim, Minister of Information, Communications and Culture.
