The Blackberry Messenger is currently in version 5.x and RIM said that it will soon release the upcoming Blackberry Messenger 6(BBM6) within the next few months.
One of the new features in BBM6 include the Mobile Gifting Platform that will work with App World to allow customers to instantly “gift” airtime, apps, and other carrier services to another subscriber.
According to Dany Bolduc(pict above), Director for RIM (Malaysia), the new BBM Mobile Gifting Platform will soon be offered in Malaysia within the next 6-months but he did not disclose the mobile operators that will offer the service. In Malaysia, all four major mobile operators offer the Blackberry service including Maxis, Celcom, DiGi & U Mobile with Tune Talk planning to come on board within the next 2-months. Danny added that BBM is now the world’s largest mobile social network platform.
While the Director for RIM (Malaysia) declined to comment on the BBM6 availability, he hinted out that it will available within the next few months since the BBM Mobile Gifting Platform is a key feature in BBM6.
In a recent study by RIM, it revealed that the three most popular Blackberry Messenger (BBM) features among Blackberry users in Malaysia are as follows:
- Sharing what they are listening t
- Knowing when a message has been delivered and read
- Choosing a BBM display picture
There are currently about 55 million Blackberry users globally and 35 million active users on BBM. RIM claims that some 2,000 new BBM users are added every hour or 1.5million every month.
