EMAS now available via UniFi’s HyppTV

TM and Media Prima together today launched EMAS, a retro contemporary TV channel in Malaysia targeting the Gen-Y.

uSome of the TV programmes that will be aired on EMAS include Majalah 3, Sinaran Pasport Kegemilangan, Pi Mai Pi Mai Tang Tu, Wanita Hari Ini, Malaysia Hari Ini, Senario, Melodi, Persona Bintang, Nona, and Jejak Rasul.

All UniFi subscribers will enjoy a free one month viewing period until 30 June 2011.  From 1 July onwards, EMAS can be subscribed at RM3 per month.

PETALING JAYA, 1 June 2011- History was made at Sri Pentas today when invited guests were taken down memory lane with the presence of renowned TV personalities from the 1980s and 1990s such as Wan Zaleha Radzi, Nurfarahin Jamsari, Dato’ Mahadzir Lokman, Razak Abdullah, Datin Zalina Azman, Raymond Goh, and also a special appearance by Siti Musliha. All this took place during the launch of EMAS, the country’s first retro contemporary TV channel, made possible by the collaboration between Media Prima and TM.

EMAS is the first retro contemporary TV channel in Malaysia targeting the Gen-Y. EMAS features the comeback of episodes from yesteryears’ high rated programmes such as Majalah 3, Sinaran Pasport Kegemilangan, Pi Mai Pi Mai Tang Tu, Wanita Hari Ini, Malaysia Hari Ini, Senario, Melodi, Persona Bintang, Nona, and Jejak Rasul which has their own fans and also personalities synonymous with the programmes.

According to Datuk Johan Jaaffar, Chairman, Media Prima Berhad, “EMAS is very exciting for us as most of these programmes were the crème de la crème of the media industry during their times and have become the benchmark for today’s media content and reporting. Thus, it is important that the viewers are reintroduced to these yesteryear programmes and also give a chance to the younger generation to watch these most talked about programmes.”

“EMAS is also a turning point for the television industry to stay relevant to all ages. This is because, EMAS not only will give the viewers have more freedom and flexibility to watch their favourite retro programmes when they want to, but they can also rekindle all those memories they had from before,” added Datuk Johan.

EMAS airs “fresh content” in two main slots, between 1pm – 3pm and 8pm – 12am while the remaining time will be loops of the content. Backed by more than 30,000 hours of programmes from Media Prima Berhad’s TV Network, EMAS is expected to cement a place in everyone’s hearts.

EMAS is the latest addition to Media Prima and HyppTV’s growing array of channels. It is made available via Telekom Malaysia Berhad’s (TM) HyppTV for UniFi subscribers. All UniFi subscribers will enjoy a FREE one month viewing period until 30 June 2011.  From 1 July onwards, EMAS can be purchased on an ‘ala carte’ basis at RM3 per month.

Present at the launch, Datuk Dr Halim Shafie, Chairman, TM, who shared, “With the introduction of EMAS, HyppTV now has more than 46 channels, including 31 premium channels, 15 free channels, 14 Video On Demand (VOD) channels and 11 interactive channels. HyppTV’s VOD channel has more than 1,000 hours of exciting TV series and movies while its interactive channels include News Headlines, TED.com, Malaysian History, Flight Information, Waktu Solat and the latest – TryMasak, Facebook and YouTube”

“We will continue to enhance HyppTV’s content which will cover various genres and tastes in terms of programming channels, VOD and interactive channels, where you can watch what you want, whenever you want, come rain or shine,” he added.

HyppTV is made available to UniFi customers through its VIP package, a triple-play offering that combines voice, video and data. After its launch by the Prime Minister in March last year, this high speed broadband service has received very encouraging responses. Currently, UniFi has reached more than 86,000 customers.

The service’s coverage now includes more than 855,000 premises in 66 areas, and it will increase to 1.1 million premises at 78 areas by end of this year. TM UniFi is currently being offered via three residential packages. The residential triple-play packages are VIP5 at RM149 a month, VIP10 at RM199 a month and VIP20 at RM249 a month.
