VADS Berhad (VADS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today becomes the first Malaysian Cloud Provider to collaborate with a local technology provider when it signed a technology partnership agreement with MIMOS, the premier applied research centre in frontier technologies, to develop an orchestration platform for VADS Cloud Computing services.

The agreement was signed by Ghazali Omar, Chief Executive Officer of VADS and Zulkapli Mustafa, Vice President of ICT Services, VADS, while MIMOS was represented by its President & CEO, Datuk Abdul Wahab Abdullah and Abdul Aziz Abdul Kadir, Chief Operations Officer, MIMOS. Also present to witness the signing ceremony were Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Chairman of VADS who is also the Group Chief Executive Officer of TM together with MIMOS Chairman, Dato’ Suriah Abdul Rahman.

This smart partnership will enable VADS to offer comprehensive suites of Cloud Services to Enterprise, Government and SME customers leveraging on MIMOS’ orchestration technology which features innovative homegrown Cloud technology backed by patented Cloud Security technology that could be offered to VADS’ customers as part of VADS’ cloud services rollout.

“As the largest Data Centre provider in the country, going for Cloud is the logical evolution for VADS to enhance its offerings. The introduction of VADS Cloud Computing is a natural progression in line with our roadmap towards becoming a prominent ICT player in Malaysia whilst supporting the national agenda to be a key enabler for local SMEs especially Independent Software Vendors (ISVs). Towards this end, we will continue engaging with SME Corp and SMIDEC as well as collaborate with key industry associations to improve our outreach to SME communities. This is also part of TM’s strategic initiatives towards the creation of the Information Exchange for the country where everyone can leverage on our platform to connect, communicate and collaborate effectively, be it for government, education, business or pleasure. Via MIMOS’ orchestration technology, we will be able to provide a complete Cloud offering suite of services ranging from Public, Private and Hybrid Cloud services targeted to SME, Enterprise and the Government market segments,” said Ghazali Omar, who is also the Executive Vice President, Enterprise, TM.

“Our smart partnership with MIMOS marks another milestone for VADS as we become the 1st local cloud provider to collaborate with a local technology partner. We are also the 1st Malaysian Telco to offer comprehensive 3-layer cloud services and a technology neutral cloud infrastructure. This collaboration is part of our continuous efforts to elevate our managed ICT services to the next level, by not merely managing data centres but also providing key solutions that are efficient, cost-saving and reliable to our customers. By providing cloud services, we also hope to enrich current connectivity and increase the utilization of our 14 data centres nationwide. VADS Cloud services will enable customers to truly manage their usage and cost to operate their business successfully,” he further added.

“VADS chose to partner MIMOS because of the uniqueness of our Cloud Computing services which is open, secure and inter-compatible. Our cloud platform built on open source software means the total cost of ownership can be reduced via cost-effective licensing, while the modular and flexible platform enables easy integration with other systems thereby making deployment easy, maximizing value and reducing the risks in depending on any single vendor. Our technology neutrality will allow VADS to pick the best of the best,” said Datuk Abdul Wahab Abdullah.

“MIMOS’ Cloud Computing Platform also comes with built-in security which has been patented. Being the National R&D centre, MIMOS has worked on a five-year high-performance computing technology roadmap for the Ninth Malaysia Plan and we are now into our second phase which is another five-year roadmap for Cloud Computing Initiative for the 10th Malaysia Plan. We are now in much better position to play in the local and international market and not be dependent on foreign technology,” added Abdul Wahab.

VADS Cloud Services will be backed by TM’s extensive nationwide and global high-speed IP network and its existing vast customer base while leveraging on VADS 14 data centres nationwide to offer high Service Level Assurance with high redundancy for its cloud architecture. It will enable companies to have an IT infrastructure without the complexity of procurement and capital investment. The utility model would enable them to manage their spending and emphasize cost efficiency in operations.

More recently, VADS has also become the first ICT managed services provider in Malaysia to offer Managed TelePresence services via a TelePresence Exchange (TPX) hub in line with the VADS road map towards offering a collaborative hub consisting of several collaboration services for businesses. VADS’ Managed TelePresence services will be offered from July 2011 onwards.
