[Apps] Facebook Messenger for iPhone & Android

Facebook has just released a dedicated Messenger app for mobile users on iPhone & Android.

Basically, Facebook Messenger is integrated with Facebook messages and chats. It offer features such as location mapping, the ability to message friends, groups and mobile contacts, and more.

Full details below.

Get and send messages fast
With Messenger, now all your conversations are just one click away. Mobile notifications also help make sure you never miss a message, from good news (“We got the tickets!”) to last-minute changes in plans.

Message friends, groups or mobile contacts
Messages friends one on one or start a group conversation. Include friends on Facebook or anyone in your mobile contacts. Just type the person’s name, and:

  • If they’re listed in your contacts, they’ll receive your message as a text.
  • If they’re your friend on Facebook, the message will arrive either on their Messenger app (if they have it too) or in their Facebook messages.

Map your location and attach photos
Location mapping lets you see where the people in your conversation are, so it’s easy to meet up on the go. If you don’t want to share your location, you can easily turn it off by clicking the location pointer next to each message you send. You can also include photos, so friends can see what you’re doing.

Message friends from wherever you are to wherever they go
Because Messenger is integrated with your Facebook messages and chats, you can access all your conversations right in the app. Each message you send through Messenger is also saved as part of your ongoing conversations on Facebook.

So you can start a conversation on www.facebook.com and continue it on mobile:

  • If you send messages via Facebook Chat or Facebook Messages to friends when they’re away from their computers, they receive your messages right on their phones.
  • If you’re on the go, messages your friends send on the web appear on your mobile device.

Personalize your experience
Messenger lets you name and choose a picture for your group conversations, so it’s easy to keep track of who you’re talking to.

Facebook Messenger is a free download available in the iOS App Store and Android Market.
