Azmi Ujang, Maxis’ Senior Vice President of Human Resources together with Kala Kularajah Sundram, Maxis’ Chief Talent Officer, accepted the award at a special awards ceremony which was held recently at the SUNTEC Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre. This win marks the second year running that Maxis has received this prestigious award.

The Asia’s Best Employer Brand Awards pays tribute to Maxis’ success in creating a culture of contribution and innovation at work and its belief in consistent improvements in Human Resources policies. Maxis was also recognised for its role in developing future leaders.

Azmi Ujang, Maxis’ Senior Vice President and Head of Human Resources said, “Maxis is humbled to receive this award for the second year in a row. As a choice employer who puts our employees first, we realise our employees’ need for continuous development to remain relevant in this ever-changing market. With that in mind, we have put various initiatives in place to develop and equip our employees with the necessary skills and knowledge for the future. We believe in our people and their potential, and that’s how we continue to innovate and move forward.”

Maxis has placed great emphasis on talent development and in nurturing its employees to become leaders and pioneers. To that end, Maxis has established the Maxis Academy, its internal learning centre which provides employees an accessible and stimulating learning environment with which to enhance competencies. In addition, Maxis has also introduced the prestigious Maxis Scholarship Excellence Awards programme, which offers scholarships to talented Malaysians who are or have parents who are Maxis postpaid subscribers or employees; providing them with life changing opportunities to pursue their studies in top universities, both locally and abroad.

Proving that it is also a caring and progressive employer, Maxis recently introduced a special initiative for new mothers – a Mother’s Room – which has been set up in selected Maxis offices. It is a private room where an employee who is breastfeeding may express milk in private one or more times a day. It reduces barriers to breastfeeding employees by enabling them to transition back to work and continue breastfeeding their child. Maxis has established the Mother’s Room to support breastfeeding mothers in the workplace. Initiatives such as this clearly demonstrate Maxis’ commitment in taking care of its employees’ overall well-being and enabling them to enjoy a balanced work and family life.

In addition to its wins at the Asia’s Best Employer Brands in 2010 and 2011, Maxis has received numerous other recognitions for its employee programmes. It was awarded the Gold award in the innovation category at the Malaysia Human Resource Award 2010 in recognition for its innovation in nurturing employee talent through their work at the Maxis Academy. Maxis also won Employer of the Year Award from the South East Asia HR Excellence Awards 2010 in Kuala Lumpur, in recognition of its best practices in Human Resources Management.
