In a video posted by Packet One Networks(P1) on its official YouTube account, the ISP talked about its WiMAX network and challenges faced.
According to its Senior Vice President of Technology, TI Lian Seng, P1’s subscriber base surged during the last 18-months after the company launched the “Potong” campaign in 2009. That caused the utilisation of the network to increase tremendously says Ti.
“Overall we have disappointed our customer and internally we disappointed ourself,” Ti added. That forced the team to come together to improve the network and customer service.
P1 has about 338k subscriber today and claims that 95% of its current WiMAX network meet quality standard. Some of the key things that P1 has done to improve the network include:
- Implementing Data traffic management to monitor and allocate network traffic/bandwidth
- Increase bandwidth on base stations to 30% by implementing the latest WiMAX features
- 30% of new network expansion dedicated for existing subscribers- for additional capacity
- Double up capacity on international bandwidth
Internally, an oath have been signed by 9 key members of the network rollout team to hit the 1,600 base station this year. Some of the team members include Green Packet group managing director, CC Puan and Ti. P1 currently has some 1,000 WiMAX sites in Peninsular Malaysia.
