The Maxis 3G network is now capable of offering HSPA+(Evolved High Speed Packet Access) speeds of up to 21Mbps nationwide. It will soon be upgraded to support speeds up to 42Mbps.
According to Mark Dioguardi(pict), Maxis Co-Chief Operating Officer, the upgrade will be completed in time to support some of the latest device out there with such capable speeds, including the new iPad from Apple and the Nokia Lumia 900.
Mark added that the upgrade to 42Mbps will make Maxis the widest network in the country with the fastest speed.
MalaysianWireless has been told the 42Mbps upgrade will be rolled out to 70% of the network or to be exact, 3500 base station by May 2012.
At the moment, Maxis has some 5,200 3G base station all around Malaysia. It is currently trialling FD-LTE with four network equipment vendors. LTE could offer download speeds between 100Mbps-1Gbps and it is set for roll out in Malaysia sometime 2013.
