WiMAX operator Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (P1) is injecting RM30 million to kick start its P1 4G rollout in East Malaysia. P1 is expected to make its debut in East Malaysia by quarter three this year starting with Kota Kinabalu in Sabah.
P1’s Chief Executive Officer Michael Lai said consumers and businesses in East Malaysia particularly Kota Kinabalu will soon enjoy the power of 4G broadband by P1. The P1 deployment team has begun rolling out in Kota Kinabalu and by the end of this year expects to cover about 55 percent of households in that city.
In line with P1’s mission of Broadband for All, P1 will gradually expand its coverage to Kepayan, Lido, Fortuna, Karamunsing, Menggatal, Likas, Penampang, Pertagas, Inanam, Nosoob, Damai, Kingfisher Park within Kota Kinabalu, to other towns in Sabah and the state of Sarawak.
“Our strategy is to rollout P1 services one location at a time and best manage our deployment resources between East and West Malaysia,” Lai informed. Commenting on the response expected in East Malaysia with regards to P1 4G service and packages, Lai hopes that the service will be a hit in East Malaysia just like its success with West Malaysia friends. P1’s coverage expands to 52 percent of the population as of the end of last year.
“People who know about the best value for money in broadband will know that P1 offers the best value for cost per gigabyte. The easy plug and play method of P1 4G minus the hassle of subscribing to a fixed telephone line for broadband are great plus points to experience P1’s service. What’s also amazing is with P1’s OnePlan packages that bundle a fixed modem for home and an on-the-go modem, P1 customers can have the best 4G experience at the best value for money; using the right device for the right purpose,” Lai explained.
The Internet service provider currently has about 400,000 customers in West Malaysia with an average of 17GB of data usage per month on P1’s 4G network.
