U Mobile today announced that it now has over two million registered subscribers. The announcement comes about nine months after UMobile first announcement of securing one million subscribers last year.
Commenting on the latest achievement, Dr. Kaizad Heerjee, CEO of U Mobile, said, “We are extremely proud of reaching this significant milestone. This achievement proves that our products and services are well received in the market. We would like to extend our thanks to our customers for their continuous support. Thank you for believing in us.”
In a statement, U Mobile said that it embarked on a rebranding exercise in early 2011 when Kaizad took reign of the telco. It enhanced its prepaid offering to include nationwide on-net free calls, free SMS, unlimited mobile internet and, zero roaming charges for U Mobile customers when they are in Singapore. Its postpaid service was also repackaged, combining voice, SMS and data plans in a single package.
“We believe the basics like SMS, data and calls should be extremely affordable, which is one of the many reasons why U Mobile’s offerings appeal to consumers,” continued Kaizad. “We have deliberately kept our infrastructure investment to a minimum through strategic network sharing agreements with partners such as Maxis, so that the savings of infrastructure development can help U Mobile to focus on bringing more products and services innovation to benefit the customers.”
U Mobile currently has over 1900 3G sites in the Klang Valley, Johor Bahru, Penang, Port Dickson and Negeri Sembilan. It also has a nationwide 2G domestic roaming partnership with Celcom and 3G RAN sharing agreement with Maxis.
