The latest version of BlackBerry smartphone’s OS, BlackBerry 7.1 is now available for BlackBerry Bold 9900 users in Malaysia.
The new operating system was released in January for eight Blackberry smartphones however the update is only available now(almost 6-months later) for BlackBerry Bold 9900 users in Malaysia.
The new update comes with the following improvements:
- WiFi hotspot functionality- allows up to five WiFi-tethered devices
- Improved Universal Search- an auto-suggest feature that intelligently filters Bing search results to offer users a variety of relevant Web sites based on their search terms
- WiFi Calls- supports carrier implemented Wi-Fi calling services (UMA/GAN where available), allowing users to make Wi-Fi calls from their BlackBerry smartphone that don’t eat into their airtime minutes.
- BlackBerry Tag- an NFC tool used to pair up accessories, swap data(such as doc & pictures) and add new contacts, BBM invitations
In addition, a new Battery Saving Mode feature has been added which allows customers to extend the battery life of their BlackBerry Bold 9900 when it is most needed. The new feature provides customers the option to have their smartphone settings automatically adjusted when the battery power reaches a level pre-defined by the users. Some of the settings the Battery Saving Mode will automatically adjust include the brightness level, backlight timeout, and also the mobile hotspot auto shutdown timer.
The new BlackBerry 7.1 OS is now available for BlackBerry Bold 9900 customers to download. Customers can upgrade the OS of their smartphones by using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software or download the update file(270MB) below.
