[Insider] Celcom WiFi service set to launch very soon

Celcom is set to launch its WiFi service soon and it is expected by the end of this year(could be next month).

The Celcom WiFi service will be available at a number of areas including shopping malls(F&B areas), other public areas, hotels and more. So far, our sources claim that Celcom has installed the system at over 300 sites in the Klang Valley.

The Celcom WiFi service is different from the others as it uses the indoor antenna system(cellular) and it is capable of covering up to 15 meters. In comparison, Bluetooth signal goes as far as 10 meters.

We believe the service will be offered to Celcom Broadband customers at launch and we do hope Celcom will extend the service to non-Celcom customers as well.

One interesting fact is that the service has very fast backhaul speed(between 10Mbps-40Mbps) and it is expected that Celcom WiFi may offer download speeds of up to 2Mbps to end users.

Celcom will expand the service to more areas in the second phase using standard WiFi routers in the future if there’s demand. More details when we have it.
