DiGi becomes agent for Maybank remittance service

DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (DiGi) and Malayan Banking Berhad (Maybank) have announced the launch of DiGi SendMoney, an over-the-counter remittance service that will enable Malaysians and migrants to remit cash to overseas.

Through this service, DiGi becomes Maybank’s first remittance agent for Maybank Money Express (MME) and it will be offered at 23 DiGi Centres nationwide. The MME service is currently available at Maybank’s outlets, branches and money exchange booths.

Lim Hong Tat, Deputy President and Head of Community Financial Services at Maybank said, “Maybank is already a market leader in the remittance business and we are very pleased with the continued success of the Maybank Money Express which was officially launched in September 2010.

“Riding on the current sustainable economic growth and the increased number of foreign workers in the country, this year we are projecting a total remittance of RM3.37 billion from the Maybank Money Express service.”

MME made some RM2.6 billion last year according to reports.

DiGi SendMoney will facilitate money transfers for DiGi and non-DiGi customers to nine countries, namely Indonesia, Philippines, Nepal, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Pakistan, Myanmar and Brunei. Service charge for DiGi SendMoney ranges from RM10 up to RM30 per transaction and each maximum sending amount (per transaction, per day) is limited to RM5,000 per customer.

The DiGi SendMoney service has been available since 21 May 2012.
