Mozilla has released some screenshots of its upcoming Firefox operating system (OS) for smartphones and tablets.
The first handsets running the Firefox OS are set to arrive in January 2013, commercially in Brazil through Telefónica’s commercial brand, Vivo.
So far device manufacturers TCL Communication Technology (under the Alcatel One Touch brand) and ZTE have confirmed their intentions to manufacture the first Firefox OS devices using Snapdragon processors from Qualcomm. Operators such as Deutsche Telekom, Etisalat, Smart, Sprint, Telecom Italia, Telefónica and Telenor are backing the open Firefox OS.
Firefox OS, based on HTML 5, will be aimed at the budget end of the market initially with plans for mid-high end markets later. Telefonica has said that its first handset, will come in at sub $100 (around RM313).
