Celcom Axiata customers can now pay zakat fitrah via the m-fitrah service. The mobile operator is authorised as a zakat fitrah collection agent for the states of Selangor, Melaka, Kedah, Perlis, Terengganu, Kelantan, Pahang and Sabah.
The service, which is performed via SMS, is open to both postpaid and prepaid customers throughout the holy month of Ramadan, and the zakat fitrah payment amount will either be reflected in customers’ postpaid bills or deducted from the prepaid airtime.
To make payment for zakat fitrah, Celcom customers can simply SMS “FITRAH” to 21999, select the state, and provide details including their full name, identity card number and the number of contributions they are paying on behalf of. Customers will then receive an SMS on the amount payable, which can be confirmed by the customer before zakat fitrah is deducted or billed. SMSes sent or received on the Celcom m-fitrah service are free of charge.
Payment receipts will be issued by the relevant state Islamic religious affairs councils for payers’ reference and tax rebate claims. Customers must log on to mfitrah.celcom.net.my after successful payment to verify their mailing address.
Commenting on the Celcom m-fitrah service, En. Afizulazha Abdullah, Chief Operations, Advanced Data of Celcom Axiata Berhad said, “Celcom takes every opportunity to offer our Muslim customers innovative and convenient services during the holy month of Ramadan to provide them the convenience to fulfil their religious obligations. The m-fitrah service provides easy access for those who have limited time to visit zakat fitrah counters, for those who have disabilities or for those who simply want to make timely payment conveniently. What is more, the overall payment transaction takes only less than three minutes.”
Celcom was honored by the Lembaga Zakat Selangor as the zakat payment agent with the highest collection among corporate institutions in Selangor for 2010.
