Telekom Malaysia’s High Speed Broadband (HSBB) service, UniFi is now available in Pahang. The latest expansion sees 300 residents in Alor Akar and Gebeng, Kuantan becoming the first group to enjoy the service in Pahang making it the state with the highest number of HSBB customers in the East Coast, said the Internet service provider.
Commenting on the launch, Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani said, “We are pleased that today marks another significant achievement in our HSBB roll-out when UniFi is now available here in Pahang, as the second state in the East Coast region to enjoy the service. With this deployment, 10,200 premises in two (2) exchange areas namely Alor Akar and Gebeng will be able to enjoy high speed broadband connectivity of up to 20Mbps by first quarter of 2013. The coverage will then be further expanded in phases to Bandar Indera Mahkota, Teruntum and Temerloh as well as other areas next year, which will see the total premises passed increase to 28,000 by end of 2013.”
“We are also happy to note that even though UniFi service has just reached Pahang, we already signed up more than 300 subscribers, elevating Pahang as the state with highest number of subscribers in the East Coast region. “We are very happy that after two years of the implementation of HSBB, we have recorded more than 425,000 UniFi subscribers nationwide. We are also proud to note that Malaysia’s HSBB project has been recognised at the global front as the fastest in its roll-out and largest in terms of scope. In addition, the project has become a model for high speed broadband projects, an achievement that we as Malaysians should be proud of,” Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani further added.
The provision of UniFi in Pahang was officially launched on Monday by YB Dato’ Haji Mohd. Sharkar Haji Shamsudin, Exco of Information, Science, Technology and Innovation of Pahang, who represented YAB Menteri Besar of Pahang, together with YB Dato’ Joseph Salang, Deputy Minister of Information, Communications and Culture. Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM, Dato’ Kairul Annuar Mohamed Zamzam, Executive Vice President, Government, TM and Md Rasidin Kadak, State General Manager, TM Pahang were also present at the launching ceremony.
Currently, UniFi service is available at 94 areas nationwide in key economic and industrial zones including Klang Valley, Cyberjaya, Putrajaya, Kulim Hi-Tech Park and Bayan Baru industrial area with over 1.29 million premises passed. The areas include 64 in the Inner Klang Valley as well as Nusajaya in Iskandar Malaysia and industrial areas around the country including 2 in Melaka, 5 in Penang, 3 in Kedah, 9 in Johor, 2 in Negeri Sembilan, 2 in Perak, 1 in Terengganu, 1 in Sabah, 3 in Sarawak as well as 2 in Pahang.
The UniFi services is available from RM149 a month for a 5Mbps connection.
