Celcom Axiata Berhad, has established a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Royal Malaysia Police (Polis Diraja Malaysia – PDRM) for the mutual improvement of network capability and efficiency, while also introducing an exclusive Celcom First postpaid plan for the police force.

The partnership will see Celcom expand on its network capability by sharing PDRM’s telecommunication sites nationwide while giving PDRM access into identified Celcom sites for the installation of dedicated police communications equipment.
The partnership will also allow Celcom to maintain and enhance its nationwide mobile network through the installation of transmission equipment near urban and rural police stations nationwide to mitigate the issue of equipment vandalism and theft that has become a frequent cause of network disruptions.
Speaking at the signing, Dato’ Sri Shazalli Ramly, Chief Executive Officer of Celcom Axiata Berhad said, “We are proud to be working with PDRM on this landmark project as this strategic collaboration further proves our commitment and capabilities as a leading telecommunications provider in the country. It also represents a milestone for collaborations between the public and private sectors for the benefit of the rakyat. We are confident that our network capability will be a step up for PDRM in increasing the efficiency and mobility of its police force within Celcom Territory.”
“At the same time, our infrastructure-sharing agreement with PDRM promises cost savings and more efficient site management for both parties that will enhance each other’s operations. Apart from the partnership, there will be further opportunities for PDRM to adopt Celcom’s customised services such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance, broadband internet, vehicle-mounted police cameras, fleet and asset tracking management, and location-based services (LBS),” Dato’ Sri Shazalli added.
At the signing, Celcom announced a new dedicated Celcom First voice plan for all members of the Royal Malaysia Police who will enjoy zero registration fees, a monthly commitment from as low as RM2, billing on a pay-per-use basis, and free minutes and SMS within PDRM subscribers among other benefits. Each police officer is eligible for two mobile numbers under this plan that they can enjoy for the rest of their term with Celcom.
The memorandum was signed by the CEO of Celcom and Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hj Ismail Hj Omar, Inspector General of the Royal Malaysia Police at a ceremony at Bukit Aman yesterday. The ceremony was also attended by Dato’ Pahlawan Zulkifli bin Abdullah, Police Commissioner and Director of the Department of Logistics for the Royal Malaysia Police; as well as directors and senior officers of PDRM and Celcom’s senior management.
