In a recent interview with Goh Thean Eu from Business Times, DiGi said it will focus on growing its mobile business and has no immediate plans to go into the fixed-line broadband services.
“It’s a matter of priority. We believe the mobile space still has plenty of opportunities. Over the near-term, I do not foresee us going into that (fixed-lined broadband) business,” DiGi chief executive officer Henrik Clausen said.
DiGi has over 9 years of experience in the mobile data business. The operator launched its data services(GPRS/EDGE) back in 2003 and later 3G data service in 2009.
However quite a number of DiGi customers have expressed disappointment in DiGi over the recent years. These customers have experienced or still experiencing poor voice calls, drop calls, poor 3G speed and network coverage, among others. A short list of DiGi customer’s reaction can be found over here.
“It’s not that customers will want to buy everything from one provider. At the end of the day, customers will go for the best provider for those particular services. We believe that we need to be the best in what we are doing and the best thing we can do is to deliver the best data experience,” said Clausen.
“That’s our differentiator.”
In comparison, Maxis has about 7.8 million mobile Internet users as of early this year while Celcom Axiata claims that it leads the 3G wireless broadband space. The numbers indicate that Maxis & Celcom are delivering a better data experience compared to DiGi.
“With this growth in mind, it is critical that we give the best experience to our customers. Therefore, part of our strategy is to develop packages that are right for them.”
