Maxis Data Centre gets Tier III Certification

Maxis Berhad (Maxis) data centre has been awarded Uptime Institute’s Tier III Certification (Certification of Design). The facility, built by HDC, a data centre infrastructure service provider, in collaboration with Maxis, is the first and only in Malaysia to be accredited with such a certification.

The prestigious certification has been awarded for the data centre’s consistency in its procedures for operations, maintenance and support of the critical infrastructure systems which are key to ensuring continuous availability.

The Uptime Institute, USA is a global organisation head quartered in New York providing unbiased, third-party data centre research, education and consultation focused on improving data centre performance and efficiency.

The certification is supported by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) under the Entry Point Project 3 (EPP3): Malaysia as a World Class Data Centre Hub, and part of the Business Services National Key Economic Area, which is under the Government’s Economic Transformation Programme (ETP). The EPP3 aims to establish Malaysia as the preferred destination for data centre investors and increase the supply of data centre space.

Fitri Abdullah, Head of Maxis Business Services told MalaysianWireless that the data centre and cloud computing services are targeted to the business segment including wholesale, Government, SME and corporate. He said it is a natural progression for Maxis to provide such services ranging from fixed connectivity to cloud services.

Maxis Data Centre provides the following services:

  • Co-Location Services
  • Secured Data Vault
  • Tape Backup and Disaster Recovery (DRC/BCP)
  • Managed Hosting
  • Managed Security Service
  • Cloud Computing Services (Iaas and SaaS)

Key features of Maxis’ data centre:

Meanwhile, Ng Wan Peng, COO, Multimedia Development Corporation explained to MalaysianWireless that MDeC intends to increase the confidence level of local data center in Malaysia. She said that as part of promoting the service to content developers under MdeC, they will be offered a 6-month free trial  for using the Maxis cloud service.

“We are very pleased with this development. The Uptime Institute’s Tier III Certification (Certification of Design) will certainly drive the confidence of market leaders such as Maxis to provide world-class data centre and hosting services. As the lead agency tasked to drive the programmes identified under the Entry Point Project 3 (EPP3), MDeC will continue its focus on building the 3 ‘Cs’ of local data centre facilities; Capability, Capacity and Credibility which encompasses international certification not only for the DC building but also for the workforce within the DC industry. With such measures in place, we are confident that our data centres will be able to better market their services to more regional and international enterprises,” she said.

The Maxis data centre is located in i-City MSC Cybercentre Zone in Shah Alam.
