Maxis, Celcom & DiGi are gearing up for the iPhone 5 launch in Malaysia, scheduled sometime this month. Rumours in the industry right now is that the iPhone 5 will launch on October 19, however that would be the same day where the Samsung Galaxy Note II will go on sale as reported on MalaysianWireless.com.
Rumours aside, Maxis has started refreshing their own iOS apps to ensure full compatibility on the iPhone 5. One of those apps, Maxis WiFi(picture above) is now compatible on the iPhone 5 and iOS 6. The screenshot above shows that the app was only updated yesterday.
Apart from the Maxis WiFi app, we checked with some of the Maxis vendors and was told that the “iPhone 5 compatibility update” is underway for the rest of the Maxis iOS apps. The update is expected within the next few days.
As for Celcom Axiata, we have been told that the Nano-SIM for the iPhone 5 is available today at selected Blue Cube outlets. It is expected to be available at more than 50 outlets nationwide over the next few days.
Current postpaid customers that have been with Celcom for more than 12-months and new customers will able to get the Nano-SIM for free. Customers who have been with Celcom for less than 12-months will be charged RM5 for the Nano-SIM replacement. Unfortunately, Celcom prepaid customers will have to wait a little more longer.
To add on the excitement, some 10,000 iPhone 5 are believed to have been sold in Singapore alone.
More in development.
