Samsung Electronics unveiled the Galaxy Camera late August at the IFA(Berlin, Germany). The Galaxy Camera is not just a normal camera, it runs Android operating system and has a sim card slot with 3G connectivity.
In addition to its mobile internet connection, the Samsung Galaxy Camera features a 16-megapixel sensor, 21x optical zoom lens (23-483mm) and both automatic and manual photographic settings.
Best of all, the Galaxy Camera is the first of its kind to let people share photos directly to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram via WiFi and mobile networks.
The device or “Camera, Reborn” as Samsung calls it, is commercially available in countries like UK, Australia and will soon be available in other parts of the world. While Canadians will only get it on December 7, the Malaysia media-launch for the Samsung Galaxy Camera is scheduled for tomorrow.
It is still hours away from the media launch but we don’t want you to wait any longer for the details. We want to reveal to you, our loyal readers, the availability and pricing of the Samsung Galaxy Camera in Malaysia.
The Samsung Galaxy Camera will have a recommended retail price of RM1899 in Malaysia. It will be available commercially via Samsung partners, including the mobile operators and camera outlets starting 29 November 2012.
We’ve learned that Maxis is very keen to offer the Samsung Galaxy Camera and they are working on a special broadband/mobile internet packages for the device. As you may already know, you cannot make calls on the Galaxy Camera.
We know Celcom is very much interested to offer the Galaxy Camera as well but at the point of time, we are not sure if they would offer it at launch. As for DiGi and U Mobile, we have got no idea if they intend to offer the new camera device.
For those who are expecting “contract plans” from Maxis(and possibly the other Telcos) with cheaper pricing of the Galaxy Camera, we are sorry to tell you that it may not happen. Apparently, selling cameras is not part of the Telco’s business model so they have decided not to subsidise it. Perhaps this may change in the future.
