Apple has just rolled out the much awaited iPhone 5 LTE(Long Term Evolution) update for Malaysia Maxis customers early this morning about 1am. We mentioned about this update on the MalasianWireless Facebook last week.
The carrier bundle update is similar to the one rolled out in the US for T-Mobile except that the Maxis iPhone 5 LTE runs on 1800Mhz. The software release notes for the T-Mobile iPhone 5 update as below(Please note that not all is available in the Maxis iPhone 5 LTE update):
Enables the following:
- Visual Voicemail
- 4G network indicator
- Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS)
- AWS LTE (T-Mobile and officially unlocked AT&T iPhone 5 only)
- HD Voice (T-Mobile and officially unlocked AT&T iPhone 5 only) [Not available on Maxis]
- AWS HSPA+ (T-Mobile and new 2013 AT&T iPhone 5 only)
- MMS Settings
- Personal Hotspot Settings (Smartphone Mobile Hotspot)
- APN settings for LTE connectivity

Maxis has yet to release any official statement on the iPhone 5 LTE update however a number of users on our Facebook page has confirmed the update.

As seen in the screenshot above, Maxis iPhone 5 users could now experience speeds up to 40+Mbps via LTE. We have been told that the average speed users could expect is about 30Mbps on Maxis LTE(10Mhz is being used in the 1800Mhz).
The coverage for Maxis iPhone 5 LTE(1800Mhz) is not widely available yet(currently very limited sites in the Klang Valley) but expected to hit a couple hundred of sites by the end of the year.
