Celcom partners with Seamless, plans to offer mobile payment

Sweden-based Seamless Distribution AB announced late last week that it has signed a pilot agreement with Malaysia-based Celcom Axiata to offer SEQR, a mobile payment solution. The partnership is the first in Malaysia and South East Asia.

With SEQR, Celcom customers can use SEQR to pay for their purchases at merchants in Malaysia from a Celcom Mobile Wallet Account. The partnership allows Celcom customers to be able to use SEQR to pay at the merchant physical store and online.

Seamless said that SEQR is using the state of the art technology, and it is the easiest, secure, and most cost effective payment system.

All the customer need to do is install the SEQR application on their mobile phone. To make payment, they have to scan a QR / NFC code that is displayed at a physical point of sale terminal or on the screen when purchasing online on a PC. Payments are processed and accepted when the customer enters their personal pin number. The customer will also receive a digital receipt for each purchase made directly on the phone.

“This is an important step in our strategy to launch SEQR internationally. We are very pleased to work in a partnership that involves a reputable operator for SEQR payments in Malaysia and Southeast Asia,” says Peter Fredell, President and CEO of Seamless.

“SEQR has made great achievements in the Swedish market in very short time. The market for mobile payments is growing steadily and we are confident that the Malaysian consumers and merchants are ready for the new SEQR payment solution”, added Fredell.

Over 2.4 billion transactions are processed every year via SEQR globally on behalf of leading Mobile Network Operators, Banks, Retailers and Distributors, in both developed and emerging markets.

At the point of writing, there has been no official announcement from Celcom Axiata yet.
