DiGi Telecommunications has launched its long awaited 4G LTE service today, available at limited areas in the Klang Valley.
With the new 4G LTE 2600Mhz network, DiGi is promising download speeds up to 30Mbps and uploads speeds as high as 15Mbps. The new DiGi 4G LTE is now available to all new and existing customers who subscribe to specific DiGi Broadband and Tablet Plans.
The limited 4G LTE coverage areas in the Klang Valley include Plaza Low Yat, 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Kota Damansara, Subang Indah Villa, Sunway Mentari, Bukit Bintang, KDU neighbourhood and Cheras Pandan Indah.
New and existing customers who subscribe to DiGi Broadband and Tablet Plans with 6GB Internet quota and above will be upgraded automatically to 4G LTE service as long as they change to a new batch of LTE SIM cards called DiGinet+ at selected DiGi Stores.
Customers with broadband plans below 6GB Internet quota will have to subscribe to one of the 4G LTE On Demand packages to use LTE. DiGi’s 4G LTE On Demand is available in two plans, RM8/day for 1GB & RM30/month for 1GB. Customer must first upgrade to the DiGinet+ SIM to use LTE.

Only Postpaid Broadband and Postpaid Tablet plan subscriptions after 1 March 2013 are 4G LTE-enabled and eligible for DiGiNet+ SIM replacements.
The DiGinet+ 4G LTE SIM are only available in the form on Standard SIM(mini-SIM) and Micro-SIM. DiGinet+ SIMs are not available in the Nano-SIM format to support iPhone 5 LTE.
For customers who are replacing their SIM card for the 1st time, the DiGinet+ 4G LTE SIM will be free of charge, if not an upgrade fee of RM10 will be imposed.
DiGi said that it will offer LTE on supported smartphones later but did not provide a timeline.
In a media statement, DIGi said that its 3G population coverage has reached 68% with 6.1 million mobile Internet and mobile broadband customers, as of Q1 2013. The company network modernisation exercise is expected to be completed by end of Q3 and so far over 4,700 sites out of 5,500 have been upgraded.
