TM partners with Astro to offer more Sports Content via HyppTV

Measat Broadcast Network Systems Sdn. Bhd. (MBNS),  a subsidiary of Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad (Astro) has entered into an  agreement  with  TM  NET  Sdn  Bhd  (a  wholly owned  subsidiary of  Telekom  Malaysia Berhad) for the carriage of  Astro SuperSport  HD  and Astro  SuperSport  2  HD (collectively,  ASSP  Channels) on TM’s Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) service, HyppTV, effective today, 1st August 2013.

The  ASSP Channels will televise selected matches from the Barclays Premier League (BPL), commonly referred to as the English Premier League(EPL) and other sports content. In addition to the ASSP Channels, the parties have  also  agreed to enter into a further  Agreement  for  the  carriage  of  selected  NJOI channels on HyppTV subject to certain conditions.

Concurrently, Astro said that it welcomes TM as the presenting  sponsor for the Astro Malaysia  Super League, Astro Malaysia  Premier League,  FA Cup and Malaysia Cup, aired on Astro Arena(Channel  801).

Astro Arena since its launch 3 years ago has  garnered  a  following  amongst  Malaysian  sports  enthusiasts  with  matches  like  Asian Games, SEA Games, Malaysia Cup and FA Cup garnering unprecedented viewership. It is our intention to provide even more comprehensive local sports coverage to raise visibility and in turn, attract higher levels of sponsorships to benefit our sports industry. Our investment in local sports content has grown significantly and now accounts for approximately 20% of our total sports content costs.”

The Astro SuperSport HD and Astro SuperSport 2 HD channels are available via HyppTV Sports Pack starting today. The HyppTV Sports Pack cost RM30/month currently however it will be increased  to RM50/month after September. The new Astro Sports channels will be available on HyppTV on Streamyx and UniFi but not the recently launched HyppTV Everywhere.

With the launch of these channels today, HyppTV now has a total number 110 channels, of which 29 channels are in High  Definition  (HD).  The  110  channels  comprise  25  free-to-air  channels including 8 radio channels, 49  premium channels,  16 Video-On-Demand  (VOD)  genres and 20 interactive channels.

With the 2 new sports channels, HyppTV now offers HyppTV Sports Pack bundling its 13  Sports  channels; Astro  SuperSport HD and Astro Supersport 2 HD, HyppSports  HD, HyppSports HD2, HyppSports HD3, HyppSports HD4, FOX Football Channel HD, TRACE Sports HD, MUTV, HyppXtreme HD, HyppSports On Demand, FOX Football Channel ON Demand and HyppSports Academy.
