U Mobile, a 3G mobile operator in Malaysia has signed a new agreement with ZTE Corporation. Through this partnership, U Mobile is appointing ZTE to deploy disaster recovery (DR) system for U Mobile’s core network.
The DR system is expected to complete within 2014, enhancing U Mobile’s ability to provide seamless Internet and mobile services to subscribers with minimal interruption. Upon completion of the project, U Mobile said it will explore subsequent upgrades and purchases depending on the network’s capacity requirement.
“We are living in a connected society where almost everyone has access to mobile and internet services wherever they go. Hence, network stability and coverage are keys to connectivity, and we at U Mobile are taking additional measures to safeguard and backup our network system, so that users can continue their seamless mobile experiences and stay connected with U Mobile,” said Wong Heang Tuck, Acting Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of U Mobile.
“U Mobile and ZTE have embarked on various major projects and strategic partnerships since early 2011, including the current DR system installation. We are proud to be partnering ZTE once again and we believe their expertise in telecommunications equipment and network solutions will add value to our company. We look forward to greater partnerships and work synergies ahead,” Wong added.
The signing was witnessed by the Prime Minister of Malaysia and the President of the People’s Republic of China.
In celebration of the National Day of the People’s Republic of China, which falls on 1 October annually; U Mobile is throwing a special IDD promo where the top 300 prepaid and postpaid plan users who make IDD calls to China will be rewarded with 50MB on the next day.
