Celcom Axiata Berhad’s chief executive officer (CEO) has been acknowledged as the “ICT Personality of the Year” at the PIKOM ICT Leadership Awards 2013 last Friday.

The ICT Personality of the Year is one of only five top categories of PIKOM’s annual awards. This is Dato’ Sri Shazalli’s first accolade from the organisers and highlights his success in driving Celcom’s excellent growth and performance in the industry during his eight-year tenure.
Upon receiving the award, Dato’ Sri Shazalli said, “It is indeed an honour to receive such a coveted award. However, this recognition also belongs to Celcom’s management and employees, whose untiring commitment and hard work throughout my time here has given much purpose to my role. And also not forgetting our parent company, Axiata Group Berhad and the Board for such tremendous guidance given at all the time.”
“Garnering this award further motivates me to guide Celcom to greater heights supported by a very talented pool of employees across all divisions and the best management team. We will continue to be inspired and further raise the bar of excellence as each milestone is accomplished and to go beyond the expectations of our stakeholders and customers,” Dato’ Sri Shazalli added.
Throughout Dato’ Sri Shazalli’s leadership, Celcom was acknowledged with numerous awards and accolades including recently including:

- Mobile Service Provider of the Year – 2013 Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Excellence Awards
- Broadband Service Provider of the Year – 2013 Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Excellence Awards
- Telecommunications Wholesale Service Provider of the Year – 2013 Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Excellence Awards
- Best Voice Telco of the Year Award – STUFF Readers Choice Award 2012
- IIAPS Asian Supply Chain Excellence Award 2012 (Collaborative Supply Chain Special Award Category)
Prior to joining Celcom, Dato’ Sri Shazalli was the chief executive officer of ntv7, a position he held for eight years since its launch in 1998. He is also a stalwart in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industries, having held key positions in Lever Brothers, Malaysian Tobacco Company, and British American Tobacco. He has also served as Astro’s marketing director for two years where he pioneered the launch of Astro digital satellite services in Malaysia.
Dato’ Sri Shazalli is currently director of several companies under Celcom and is also a board member of the Kuala Lumpur Business Club and Yayasan Kebajikan Negara Malaysia. He also serves as a member of Celcom’s Board Executive Committee (EXCO), Board Dispute Resolution Committee and Escape Axiata Steering Committee.
The PIKOM ICT Leadership Awards programme is now in its fifth consecutive year and seeks to recognise individuals and companies that have been demonstrating outstanding performance ICT best practices in the industry, commending the diligence, commitment and innovative business strategies required to advance in the global marketplace.
