Price of premium android applications on Google Play Store will now be displayed in Ringgit Malaysia (MYR) currency for users in Malaysia. During the checkout, the price in Ringgit Malaysia will be converted to the respective currency(such as USD or GBP), subject to currency fluctuation.
Unfortunately, for payment options, users are still limited to credit/debit card payment. Google Malaysia told MalaysianWireless that they “are working on improvements” to pay for Android apps via local bank accounts, but no timeline were given.
Google Malaysia also announced today that the Google Wallet Merchant registration availability for Google Play Developers in now available in Malaysia. The Wallet Merchant is also now available to app developers in Argentina, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Russia, Taiwan and Thailand.
Previously, Android app developers in Malaysia will have to set up bank accounts in other countries to receive payouts via Google Play, but with the new announcement, app developers in Malaysia can now use their local bank account in Malaysia.
Below is the email sent out to Android developers in Malaysia:
We’re writing to let you know that we will be introducing Google Wallet Merchant registration availability for Google Play Developers in additional countries. Beginning Feb 6 2014, developers from Indonesia, Malaysia, The Philippines, and Thailand will be able to sign up as merchants through the Google Play Developer Console.
To get started with Google Wallet Merchant registration:
1. Visit your profile page on the Google Play Developer Console at https://play.google.com/apps/publish/#ProfilePlace
2. Under the Merchant Account heading, click the ‘Set up a merchant account now’ link
Registered Merchants from these countries will receive payouts from Google via wire transfer of USD. For more information about receiving payouts via wire transfer, please visit the Google Play Android Developer Help Center:
If you have previously associated a Google Wallet Merchant account from another country with your Google Play Developer account, you will be required to create a new Google Play Developer account in order to register as a merchant in any of these additional countries.
Thank you for your continued support of Google Play.
