Celcom ESCAPE Merdeka Video Contest, 1st prize RM57k

In conjunction with the 57th Merdeka celebrations, Celcom Axiata Berhad has launched the “Celcom ESCAPE Merdeka Video Contest” with the theme “Di Sini Lahirnya Sebuah Cinta”,  to inspire Malaysians from all walks of life to share their love for the country on video.

The verse, “Di Sini Lahirnya Sebuah Cinta” is part of the hit single “Warisan”, originally sung by the late Dato’ Sudirman Hj. Arshad. The song is said to illustrate the many values of love that one can display their patriotism and devotion to the country in continuing the legacy of Malaysia. 

Through the video contest, Celcom ESCAPE said that it aims to reach out to all Malaysians and offer them an avenue to share their memories of the times that not only portray their love for the country but also memorable moments that reflect their thoughts and emotions about their loved ones, beliefs, causes, places, situations or scenarios.

Open to all Malaysian residents and Malaysian Permanent Residents, the “Celcom ESCAPE Merdeka Video Contest” runs from 25 June to 16 September 2014. Participants can register their interest at Celcom Escape website starting 25 June 2014.

They then need to submit their entries on or before 18 August 2014, 11.59pm in one of the two options. Firstly, participants can submit their entries in the form of a maximum of a three-minute video in MOV, 25 fps with a minimum resolution of 720×280 to be uploaded onto YouTube and email the link to Celcom Escape. They can also submit a DVD of the video in AVI, MP4 or H.264 format together with the completed submission form to to ESCAPE Axiata Sdn Bhd.

Nine winners will be announced on 16 September 2014 and the winning videos will be shown on the Celcom Escape website on 19 September 2014.

The first prize winner will win a cash prize of RM57,000 (RM57k) and the second prize winner will receive RM30,000 (RM30k) while seven consolation prize winners will each take home a cash prize of RM10,000 (RM10k). The winners will receive their prizes at a prize giving ceremony which will be held in October 2014.

Celcom ESCAPE shares that it will be working closely with local public and private institutions of higher education to encourage the participation of young talent.

Speaking at the launch of the video contest, Dato’ Sri Shazalli Ramly, Chief Executive Officer of ESCAPE Axiata Sdn. Bhd. and Celcom Axiata Berhad, said, “The video contest encourages Malaysians to share their interpretation of love and legacy of Malaysia and hopefully to entice the public to produce their very own Merdeka videos. We hope to create a euphoric feeling of passion and excitement amongst all Malaysians to showcase their own version of storytelling, ideas and narration of their love and devotion to Malaysia, and how it can be a continuation of the country’s legacy into the future.

“We are confident that the “Celcom ESCAPE Merdeka Video Contest” will be well received by Malaysians as it is fascinating to see how we, the rakyat of Malaysia translate our ideas, views and passion into a short video and communicate the message that we are trying to convey to the rest of Malaysia and the world. The contest will showcase the vibrant involvement and participation of everyone in Malaysia and gives Malaysians an opportunity to not only share their personal and heartwarming stories but also instill the spirit of national pride in Malaysians, regardless of their different backgrounds,” Dato’ Sri Shazalli added.

In commemorating the Merdeka celebrations, Celcom will also carry out various promotional campaigns. The Celcom CEO said that there are 14 more Merdeka related campaign that will be launched.
