UberX officially launched, price 15% lower than budget taxis in Malaysia

Uber, the mobile app which connects drivers to riders in 160+ cities around the world, has launched its cheaper version of the service called uberX in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The uberX vehicles for Kuala Lumpur will include Perodua Myvi, Nissan Almera and Toyota Vios in a variety of colors and styles, seating up to four passengers. Rider safety and satisfaction remain Uber’s highest priority, the company said.

Cost 15% lower than budget taxis in Malaysia, UberX is priced as below:

• Base Fare: RM1.50
• Fare for distance + time: RM0.55/km + RM0.20/min
• Minimum Fare: RM2.50

Similar to its premium uberBlack service, all drivers and partners undergo Uber’s rigorous screening process for uberX, including:

• A stringent background check
• A driving history check
• Ongoing quality assurance via rating system

Through this screening process, Uber said it is committed to building a marketplace for the safest way to get around KL. All Uber rides are backed by the vehicle’s insurance policy, and riders will always have the option to rate every driver and contribute to the quality of the Uber community with their feedback.

To use uberX, download the Uber app onto an Android or Apple smartphone, complete the free registration process with a credit/debit card, swipe and select uberX in the Uber app. For those Uber riders who have already downloaded Uber and registered an account, no additional steps are required: simply swipe and select uberX in the app the next time you want an affordable and safe ride in KL.
