Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) announced today that its 4G LTE coverage in Klang Valley now stands at 79%.
The Telco, which launched its 4G LTE service in July 2013 claims that it is the fastest growing network in Malaysia. Its nationwide 4G LTE population coverage currently stands at 33% and it is targeting a 45% nationwide population coverage by year end.
In the next few quarters, Digi said it will be overlaying 1800Mhz and 2600Mhz spectrum for 4G LTE. The current Digi 4G LTE network is using the 2600Mhz frequency while its 2G network is on 1800Mhz. For LTE on the 1800Mhz band, the Telco told MalaysianWireless that it is refarming the spectrum and plan to use 20Mhz (10Mhz x2) for the LTE deployment. Digi has a total of 50Mhz spectrum in the 1800Mhz band. This will simultaneously increase network coverage, boost capacity and significantly improve both indoor and outdoor Internet experience in the Klang Valley, it claims.[Update: Digi takes a U-Turn, now saying 1800MHz 4G LTE available in Penang & Sarawak]
