JOOX music streaming app for Android & iOS from Tencent now in Malaysia

The company behind popular messaging service, WeChat, Tencent today launched its music streaming app called JOOX in Malaysia. The application is available as a free download and work on Android and iOS devices.

Available in three user interfaces and content selections; Melayu Hits, Chinese Hits and International, JOOX provides an extensive library of local and global music from your favourite artists across Malaysia, Asia and International markets, the company said.

Key features of the JOOX music streaming application according to Tencent:

  • Free Radio – Access over 20 radio stations for free
  • Recommended Playlists – Find playlists that fit your mood
  • Personalized Music – Customize your playlists with your favorite jams for every occasion
  • Real-Time Sharing – Share your tunes with WeChat friends and on your Moments

JOOX is now available to Malaysians for free with an option to upgrade to its premium subscription service. Premium will receive further added-on benefits such as being able to download songs for offline usage, ad-free music streaming and access to high definition quality soundtracks.

Pricing for JOOX VIP Services (Premium):

  • 1 month: RM14.90
  • 3 months: RM40.90
  • 6 months: RM73.90
  • 1 year: RM136.90

First time users who sign-up will each get free VIP service for 30 days before moving back to the standard free-tier.

Angie Tan, Business Development Director of WeChat Malaysia told MalaysianWireless that JOOX’s music library is currently in the millions without disclosing any specific numbers. She said that the company currently has a web based service for JOOX. The company will soon launch the JOOX desktop app and an app customised for tablet.

Malaysia is the 2nd country to offer JOOX. Tencent first launched the service in Hong Kong in January 2015. To date, JOOX has partnered with Sony Music, OSM, Universal Music and Warner Music to offer the music streaming service in Malaysia.

Angie said that Tencent has set up local servers in Malaysia for users to enjoy a better streaming experience.

JOOX requires an active 3G/4G LTE or WiFi connection to work.
