The Telco said its engineers have been busy rolling out its network this past month to bring 4G LTE access to 80 major cities and towns, with key market centres averaging 95% population coverage. Just last month, Digi announced that it has 50% 4G LTE coverage nationwide.

Digi has also switched on its 4G LTE-Advanced (4G LTE-A) network nationwide with a 22% coverage footprint, reaching an average 50% population coverage in key market centres. It told MalaysianWireless that its LTE-A network has a theoretical download speed of 150Mbps with a consistent speed of more than 10Mpbs 80% of the time in Klang Valley, Penang, Perak, Kuantan, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.

Digi’s Chief Network Officer, Kesavan Sivabalan said that Digi is focused on “building a network its customers deserve. And that means being committed to continue delivering not only on coverage and access, but also on the consistency and quality of the services Digi offers.”

“For us, it’s about delivering a strong network and customer experience across the board. We are building more sites to densify the network and overlaying a large number of our sites to dual band, 1,800Mhz and 2,600Mhz, to ensure that our customers experience consistently higher internet speeds with improved outdoor and indoor coverage. We designed our network to also deliver a minimum signal strength quality of -110dbm which is comparable to our counterparts in Scandinavia and telco operators in countries like Korea, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan.”

Digi said its 4G LTE network offers:

  • 99.9% accessibility to our 4G LTE services
  • 2x faster web page loading
  • 2x faster latency
  • 3x more stable connections
  • 80% more than 5Mbps speed consistency
  • 10x faster LTE relative speed

“To cater to customers’ increasing internet appetite, Kesavan says that Digi will continue to steadily fast-track its network rollout to enable more Malaysians to enjoy consistent high-speed internet services on-the-go. “We believe the internet is for everyone, and every Malaysians should have the opportunity to benefit from being connected. We will continue investing heavily in building a high-quality network that has all the necessary elements of coverage, density and technology to deliver the consistent internet experience and next-generation services our customers deserve.”

Digi revealed that it is already working to bring Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) and Voice-over-WiFi (VoWiFi) services, and compatible 4G LTE smartphones to customers in 2016. VoLTE will improve call experiences for customers with higher quality audio, faster call connections and simultaneous use of data, while VoWiFi will help customers enjoy improved indoor coverage, it said.

Digi also announced a new Twitter campaign for customers to nominate their towns to be the next in line for Digi’s 4G LTE network rollout. The campaign lets customers highlight locations they wish to enjoy high-speed internet coverage, Digi will then expand its 4G LTE network to the top 10 areas with the most hashtags.
