Digi network outage yesterday caused by “short circuit in power system”

Digi customers experienced a service outage yesterday evening between 6.30pm until 9.30pm. Customers were not able to make calls, use SMS and data although they were able to receive calls using the Digi network.

The Telco made the following statement around 9pm yesterday in response to the network outage as thousands of customer complained via social media networks:

[box type=”info” align=”aligncenter” ]At 6.27pm today (10/11/15), we experienced a short circuit in our power system. We proactively shut down power supply to our servers to ensure safety and subsequently took measured steps to progressively restore services for our customers. As of 7.15pm, we started recovering all services and expect full recovery by 9.30pm today. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.[/box]

According to reliable sources close to MalaysianWireless, it is believed that Digi’s Data Centre located at Lot 10, Jalan Delima 1/1, Taman Perindustrian Subang Hi-tech Batu 3 was on fire. The fire was caused by UPS (uninterruptible power supply) which is part of the data center. The source also said the data centre hosted the Digi.com.my website and the disruption not only took down the Digi website but also affected some 6 million Digi subscribers.

We subsequently restarted our servers as part of our service recovery effort. While most services have been recovered, stabilization efforts will still be carried out over the next few hours. In the interim, some customers may experience intermittent service disruption.

We will continue to communicate with customers, and ongoing updates will be made available on Facebook and Twitter.

We apologise to our affected customers for the inconvenienced caused. We seek your patience while we urgently work towards full service recovery. [/box]
