From mid-December onwards, all TM Unifi customers will receive a 12-month iflix subscription (valued at RM96) bundled with their existing TM service, at no additional charge. In future, the offer will be further extended to Streamyx 4Mbps and 8Mbps package customers.

To access their subscription, TM customers simply need to visit iflix.com or download the iflix mobile app, and access iflix without the need to sign up or sign in.

Azran Osman-Rani, iflix Group COO and CEO of iflix Malaysia told MalaysianWireless that the iflix system will instantly recognise the user if she/he is on a TM Unifi or Streamyx connection, and will tag that device using proprietary technology. The 1st 5 device (that are used to access iflix from Unifi), be it a phone, laptop, desktop or tablet will be able to access iflix for free over the next 12-months using any Internet service provider (ISP).

With iflix, TM customers will also be able to download shows to their mobile phone or tablet to watch their favourite shows, even when they aren’t connected to the internet.

Azran commented: “We are thrilled to partner with TM, Malaysia’s leading telecommunications provider. With our new seamless sign-up process and TM’s extensive nationwide coverage, subscribers can now enjoy uninterrupted and unlimited access to thousands of their favourite TV shows and movies. Our partnership with TM once again demonstrates our commitment to bring the best in entertainment content to Malaysian audiences across the country.”

Moving forward, iflix said that intends to work closely with TM to keep the Malaysia’s Internet traffic local.

Commenting on the collaboration, Jeremy Kung, Executive Vice President, New Media, TM, said, “We are continuously improving our content proposition to give the highest quality entertainment to our customers. This partnership with iflix marks our first collaboration with an OTT player and the 1st in ASEAN for iflix. We remain open to collaborate with more OTT partners to keep up with the demand of younger generations viewing behaviour. We are now able to offer tens of thousands more hours of on-demand TV shows and movies to our customers via iflix, complementing our IPTV service – HyppTV offering. This is a win-win situation for both parties and their customers and for us, is in line with our brand promise of Life Made Easier.”

When asked about overlapping contents on iflix and HyppTV, Jeremy told MalaysianWireless that both contents “don’t really overlap”. He said, for example, HyppTV offers the latest movie (on demand basis) while iflix contents are more focused on TV programmes/shows.

According to the iflix website, it offers “Complete seasons of hundreds upon hundreds of top TV shows and a large boatload of great movies from the US, UK, Australia, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Korea, and other magical foreign lands.” As for HyPPTV, it offers movies, live TV channels, video on demand, among others.

Now available in Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, iflix has close to 1 million subscribers less than 6 months since launching.
